Thus far, T he Hurting, The Healing, The Loving doesn’t yet have a release date or a full tracklisting, but now that the single has dropped, the gears are in motion, and fans shouldn’t have to wait too long to hear more of Cabello.Ĭamila Cabello became the first member of girl group Fifth Harmony to depart when she officially left back in December. “Crying” is just the first piece of music Camila will likely release this year to build excitement for her forthcoming full-length as one person. In 2015, she and pop heartthrob Shawn Mendes worked together on “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which peaked at No. While this latest release is Cabello’s first on her own, she has been pairing up with other acts to keep her name on the charts while she worked on songs like “Crying.” Last year, she scored a top 10 hit with Machine Gun Kelly, as their collaborative single “Bad Things” made it all the way to No. The melody and some cooing clue you in, but it’s the songwriting credits that confirm the sample. The track delicately samples Christina Aguilera’s debut smash “Genie In A Bottle,” which made her into a star. If part of Cabello’s latest offering sounds familiar (beyond Sia's contributions), that’s because you’ve heard it before. In fact, even the theme of sadness juxtaposed with a scene where dancing and partying take place seems to be replicated from Sia’s breakout hit “Chandelier,” and who better to redo that smash than the woman herself?

From the “Cheap Thrills”-like beginning to the word choice to the vocals and how they are mixed, everything worth listening to here appears to be thanks to the genius of Sia. Everything about this single makes it sound like it belongs on a Sia record, and perhaps at one time it could have. The track has Australian singer-songwriter Sia’s fingerprints all over it, which makes sense, given that she co-wrote it alongside production whizzes like Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat. “Crying In The Club” is a respectable first outing for Camila, as it separates her from what many other artists are doing.though it does sound eerily like one other very well-known figure in the music industry.
